Privacy Policy

Effective Date: January 1, 2025  ·  Dual Stage Amplification (DBA: Dual Stage LLC)

This Privacy Policy explains how Dual Stage Amplification ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and handles information when you use StringsTheory (the "Software"). We believe in keeping things simple and transparent: StringsTheory is a local-first application, and the data you create belongs to you.

1. Information We Collect

License and account information. When you activate a Pro license, we collect the email address and license key you provide in order to validate your license and associate it with your device. This is the minimum information required to operate the licensing system.

Cloud sync data (Pro — optional). If you enable Cloud Sync, your StringsTheory data — including inventory items, work orders, customer records, Bill of Materials, and production tracking records — is transmitted to and stored on our servers to enable multi-device access. This feature is optional and must be explicitly enabled in Settings.

Support communications. If you contact us via the contact form or email, we retain the content of your message and your contact details in order to respond to you.

What we do not collect. StringsTheory does not include advertising trackers, behavioral analytics, or third-party SDKs that phone home. We do not collect usage telemetry, crash reports, or device identifiers beyond what is needed for license validation.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • License validation: To verify that your license key is valid and to enforce the single-device activation limit for Pro licenses.
  • Cloud sync: To store and synchronize your data across the devices you authorize under your account.
  • Support: To respond to questions, troubleshoot issues, and assist with license transfers.
  • Service announcements: To push in-app notifications about updates, maintenance, or important changes to the Software.

We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for any purpose beyond operating and supporting StringsTheory.

3. Third-Party Services

StringsTheory can connect to third-party services at your direction. When you configure these integrations, data is exchanged directly between your device (or our sync servers, if Cloud Sync is enabled) and those services under their own terms:

  • Google Sheets & Google Drive: Governed by the Google Privacy Policy. We request only the permissions needed to read and write the spreadsheet(s) you designate.
  • Square POS: Governed by the Square Privacy Policy. We access only the catalog and inventory data needed for two-way sync.
  • Shopify: Governed by the Shopify Privacy Policy. We access product and inventory data for the store you connect.
  • Dropbox: Governed by the Dropbox Privacy Policy. We access only the backup folder you designate within your Dropbox.

We are not responsible for the data practices of these third-party services. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before connecting them to StringsTheory.

4. Data Storage and Security

Local data. When Cloud Sync is disabled, all of your StringsTheory data is stored locally on your device. We have no access to it.

Cloud sync data. When Cloud Sync is enabled, your data is stored on our servers using industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to stored data is restricted to authenticated requests from your licensed devices.

No system is perfectly secure. While we take reasonable technical precautions to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security and are not liable for breaches beyond our reasonable control.

5. Data Retention

License activation records are retained for as long as your license is active and for a reasonable period after to handle support requests such as license transfers.

Cloud sync data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you deactivate your license and stop using Cloud Sync, your data will be deleted from our servers within 90 days, unless you request earlier deletion.

Support correspondence is retained for up to two years.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights with respect to your data:

  • Access and export: Your local StringsTheory data can be exported at any time via the CSV export and backup features built into the app.
  • Deletion: To request deletion of your account data from our servers, contact us at privacy@stringstheory.app. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
  • Opt out of Cloud Sync: You can disable Cloud Sync at any time in Settings → Account. Doing so stops transmission of new data to our servers; existing server-side data will be deleted as described above.
  • Correction: If you believe we hold inaccurate information about you (such as an incorrect email on your license), contact us and we will correct it.

7. Children's Privacy

StringsTheory is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top and, for material changes, provide notice via an in-app announcement. Continued use of the Software after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.

9. Contact
